What a calculator on a computer is supposed to look like is so ingrained that all thought of alternatives is blocked."
Pretty much sums up why I strive to do things a little different, while my methods may not always be the most efficient, I'm usually satisfied with finding alternate methods and happy with what I've learnt along the way.
